🥞 Metro Diner Delivers Retro Vibes
“We cook food that makes you feel like you’re at your family’s house,” says Jason, Assistant Kitchen Manager of UCF Metro Diner, “Home-cooked meals is what we do best.”
This Oviedo restaurant provides a local, Florida vibe with its Southern cuisine and old-school diner aesthetic. The family-oriented atmosphere is accompanied by friendly servers who allow you to relax; you won’t feel rushed to leave, even near closing. It’s a great spot to bring out-of-towner’s if you’re looking to introduce them to a southern eatery with local vibes.
The generous portion size of each dish is fairly inexpensive, delivering both quality and quantity. Check out some of our Southern bites!
🍲 Shepherd’s Pie
This is a brand new menu item that originally made its appearance as a Black Board special. This dish features chunks of seasoned ground beef and a vegetable medley of corn, peas, carrots, green beans and lima beans. It’s topped with mashed red skinned potatoes and melted cheese for some #CheesePull action.
🍟 Loaded Chili Chips
This dish features a bed of potato chips topped with homemade chili, melted cheddar, chipotle ranch and green onions. The chips are nicely crisp French fries that deliver a subtle, yet satisfying crunch. The fried jalapeños provide a slight kick.
🍤 Charleston Shrimp & Grits
This plate features 2 fried grit cakes infused with cheese, roasted red peppers and Andouille sausage. It’s topped with shrimp, sausage, onions and peppers, while being garnished with chopped bacon and green onions. The shrimp sauce itself is filling, and adds a heavy texture to the grits. Large biscuits drizzled in hearty, scratch-made sausage gravy is a classic Southern side to accompany this dish.
🍗 Fried Chicken & Waffles
I would hail this as their signature dish. The portion is satisfying, offering a full bird of chicken. They brine the chicken and marinade it in a mixture of Dijon mustard and poultry seasoning for 24 hours. The crisp of this fried chicken captures true Southern flavor! It’s accompanied by a fluffy waffle topped with strawberry butter and powdered sugar, offering that sweet-savory experience.
With all this comfort food comes classic diner drinks. The restaurant offers $2.99 Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas everyday, making it easier to unwind and enjoy great food. Good prices, and good vibes!
“I appreciate when the restaurant is packed and people still wait to be seated,” clarifies Jason, “this strip is filled with many other restaurants, so it means a lot when guests wait for a table. It makes me want to give my all.”
