💃🏼 Magical Dining 2020: Taverna Opa's Tailor-made Tastes!
“Opa means celebration,” explains Vassilis Coumbaros, Owner of Taverna Opa off International Drive, “When you eat inside a Greek home, it’s lively and loud. We try to recreate a huge celebration when you’re here!”
This family-owned restaurant served Mediterranean meals for over 13 years in Pointe Orlando. It’s currently the only restaurant open on the second level. Despite these uncertain times, they’ve decided to offer Magical Dining to visitors who are looking to safely treat themselves with delicious Greek eats.
Mediterranean cuisine is a comparatively healthier diet style. The recipes from Taverna aren’t from a book or the internet. Vassilis clarifies that the style of each dish is based off Grandma’s recipes and family experiences. With Crete-influenced flavors, take a sight of our bites!
🥗 Appetizer
The Horiatiki does not utilize lettuce, it’s a medley of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers topped with feta cheese and marinated olives. The calamari is domestically-sourced to support the local market, and holds a classic, salty crunch with an ocean-influenced flavor, served alongside a lemon for a citrusy tang.
🍖 Lamb Chops
The domestically-sourced lamb chops are marinated for 36 hours with garlic and herbs for a strong, aromatic bite. It’s served alongside lemon for tang, as well as potatoes and “yiayia’s vegetables” for a homemade touch.
🍅 Vegetarian
The stuffed pepper dish is reminiscent of a traditional Yemista. It consists of green and red peppers stuffed with rice and infused with fresh herbs, served alongside lemon potatoes. The peppers are popped in the oven, then roasted to perfection.
🍰 Dessert
The Baklava is handmade with layers of phyllo and walnuts, utilizing a lot of butter and honey, as well as cinnamon and cloves for a sweet aroma. The Opa Emek utilizes kataifi shredded phyllo dough topped with a custard cream and whipped topping that holds an airy texture. Walnuts add a slight crunch, where the dessert isn’t as sweet as the baklava.
The cocktail flight is a Magical Dining option that features custom cocktail pairings with each course.
Sevilla Gin & Tonic: seville orange tanqueray, herbs, Q tonic
Peachy Habanero: hanson organic habanero vodka, plume & petal peach wave vodka, fresh lemon, orange, agave syrup
Don Coquito: rumchata, coconut rum, coconut milk, cinnamon
Through this new normal, the restaurant renovated their bathrooms to include hand-free soap dispensers and automatic-flushing toilets. Digital menus promote contactless browsing, alongside 6-feet separation signs on the ground and temperature checks at the door. With such precautions, Taverna Opa hopes to provide you a peace of mind as you indulge in their Magical Dining menu!
