“Bringing Hawaiian BBQ here, I didn’t want to water it down,” clarifies Will, Co-Owner of Sweet & Salty Island Grindz food truck, “I keep it authentic as if it came from Hawaii; I don’t want to disrespect the culture.”

As a Navy retiree, Will has spent much of his career in Hawaii which made him more familiar with Hawaiian flavors and island flair. Co-Owner and wife, Sonya, is also a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Chief Executive Operator of Sweet & Salty Island Grindz. This food truck started off posting up at gas station corners, and slowly grown to find opportunities at various venues and breweries across the city.

This food truck brings the sweet, yet savory BBQ characteristic of Hawaiian cuisine to the mainland. Take a sight of our bites!

🍚 Vegan Huli Huli

This plant-based option features grilled tofu marinated in meatless Huli Huli sauce that holds a savory taste, utilizing vegetable broth. The protein is served alongside scoops of white rice, a Hawaiian roll, and Hawaiian slaw that’s comparable to Japanese ginger salad.

🍔 Kalua Pork

This sandwich is composed of slow-cooked pork that has a slightly smokey flavor, amplified by Hawaiian sea salt. The house sauce holds a slightly sweet BBQ taste that brings out the salty flavors.

🍗 Huli Huli Chicken

The centerpiece of this plate is chicken marinated in homemade Hawaiian BBQ sauce overnight, then drizzled in sauce after taken off the grill. Sides include a Hawaiian roll, scoops of rice, and mac salad that utilizes mayo and Hawaiian sea salt.

🍰 Dream Cake

This Hawaiian dream cake has layers of pineapple and coconut cake, creamy pineapple pudding, and freshly whipped cream that offers a subtle sweetness with tropical flair. The roasted walnuts provide a slight crunch with each bite.

Due to their nomadic nature as a food truck, visitors can catch their weekly schedule on their social media channels.
